On his wedding day to Lucy Wharton, Lucy's ex-boyfriend, Peter Bradford tried to shoot Brand. The bullet missed him and killed Lucy instead. After her funeral Dan left Philadelphia to the West ? to hunt down Bradford! He was attacked by a bear, which he killed with his knife but was badly wounded. Luckily, the chief of the Catawbas, Great Eagle and Tipi, his young son found Dan and helped him recover. They invited him to stay with them, which he did for a year ? until Bradford reappeared, now selling rum and weapons to the Catawbas? rival tribes. Bradford killed Great Eagle and fought with Dan ? who was now known as the White Indian, where Bradford plummeted off a cliff to his death!
